Wool and cashmere make soft and warm scarves suitable for winter.
Silk, cotton, viscose and man-made mixtures are used for printed designs and make great contrast for your outfit. Silk dupion, taffeta or cottons hold their shape and are used for volume for example to hold a bow.
Transparent voile and chiffon are used for floaty feminine scarves that weigh very little and drape into folds. Silk chiffon drapes well into soft folds.
Overall different fabrics and weights of fabrics will be used for different purposes.
